A fun interactive and engaging phonics game for practising blending for reading with a single word focus.
Great for classroom use on an interactive whiteboard as part of your phonics lessons. Also great for home learning on PC or tablet.
Synthetic phonics is the main method that is used in British schools. It is the practise of breaking down words into their smallest unit of sound. Blending for reading is when you decode a word in print by sounding out the individual letters and groups of letters in the word, then ‘blend’ those sounds together to say the word.
Our fun phonics games are designed to help support children and learners practise this skill with individual words and phrases. This online phonics game, Grump Grodo, covers Phases 2-5 of a Letters and Sounds phonics learning programme.
Play together as a class, with a partner, or on your own. Grumpy Grodo comes with an optional narrated story that you can use when introducing the game to children, providing context and purpose to the game. Listen to the story or skip the story and go straight to the game. You can even use the comic strip to challenge more able readers to read the story to themselves or to read it to their class.
Collect super berries as you try to escape from Grodo. Some of the berries are Super Berries that make a question appear. Read a selection of 3 words and choose which one is the real word. If you select the correct word you can temporarily turn Grodo into something to slow him down whilst Filly makes her escape!
